Evaluation

EVALUATION
OUGD 301

Out of all of the modules I have done here over the past three years, this has been my favourite to date. I may have not have done all of the brief that I set out to do as many where changed and one or two have been condensed but I have produced a vast range of work, to what I feel has been a high quality.

One of the main thing’s that I have learnt this Module is how to better keep my time management, or more importantly not to dwell too much on briefs that could be done quite quickly. This started to happen part way through the module when I started on my Marvel Novelization brief. I started the brief on a Monday and by the end of the day I had already completed the Fantastic Four book with only a few minor tweaks needing to be made afterwards. This will certainly help me next year when choosing and writing briefs in which I can evaluate exactly how much time will be needed.

The brief that took the longest to produce from start to finish was the Fashion Hero range because I kept on changing my idea for how it should look and be perceived. I was so focused on trying to make them un-feminine that I missed the point of my own brief. However, once I realised where I had gone wrong it was an easy enough mistake to rectify and I believe the designs have worked well.

The brief I was doing along side Fashion Hero was November in the North and I believe it too fell to the same fate. However, through Lorenzo’s tutorials I was able to see clearly about my layout problems and I feel that with the experimentation I did that later pages look far better and visually appealing that the original competition entry.

Though I have enjoyed this module, I’m not sure that the work I have made really supports me yet as a graphic designer, especially as a sequential designer. Only in one of my briefs have I used my own characters (November in the North) and these are characters I have a had for a few years. I have yet to completely create a set of characters and apply them in such a manor as a comic book. This is something I hope to rectify in my final major project. I have used this module as a test for thing’s to come and even though it did not go wonderfully, I now have a list of thing’s that can help me improve for next time.

One of the great thing’s about this module and the way I set my self up in the studio is that I would blog everything every night before I went home. This happened mostly on my practice blog and not so much on my context blog, which I feel has been my downfall.

Overall the module has been a good one and I now know just how hard I need to work next year in order to produce high quality work.

Marvel T-shirt: Nightcrawler

I've never been very good at drawing older people but hopefully he looks older than Anole (Who is his junior of about 15 - 20 years...)

Now I just have Wiccan to finish and then my range is complete for Fashion Hero.

November Product Shot

Product shot of the comic (back and front) in the sleeve accompanied by the small trade back volume.

Marvel Website

Used the existing Marvel shop website to add my own products. I think this is a good form of distribution as these are marvel characters. I think i was to branch out and do other company characters (such as SLG, DC and Darkhorse) then I would have to promote them on t-shirt selling sites such as stylin online.

Additional Covers

Standard comic size:

Poxket size volume:
Printed today and mocked up in context, all I have to do is photograph them this afternoon and place them on my boards.

November: Web Comic Presence

I thought the best way to promote a comic like November in the North would be with a web comic presence. This would generate interest long before the comic actually goes to print. It also means I would not have to work solid on the comic and could essentially release the pages one at a time.

(Ha Fanart, as if there ever would be.)
There's also space down the left had side for sponsors and an advertisement banner.

Cover~

Front and back cover for my November in the North comic. It folds along the fence so the sky overlaps onto the back. The blurb is short but it covers everything in what is actually quite a short comic book. I've been a bit worried about being behind with this brief but I'm positive the presentation boards will be up to scratch on Thursday and the rest of the comic will be finished!

Air Guitar!

I had no full body pictures of Brian and Leeland for this project and I'd feel like a cheat if I had used previous one's. I also wanted some illustrations for the back cover and the best I could come up with was the pair of them air guitaring.

Fasion Hero: In context

Went down to Traveling Man after I'd been to Ok Comics to photograph my t-shirts in store. Gary was most helpful and said that if I ever need to do more product shots then I am more than welcome. (He also quite liked the tops, bonus)

Fasion Hero: Product Shot

Product shot of two of the t-shirts with swing tags attached. Went down to craft wise and bought some Yellow and black ribbon and some safety pins. They're attahced at the label in the back of the tops.

Swing Tags

Decided to use just the symbol and Marvel logo on the tags because the illustration it's self is on the t-shirt and therefore it doesn't need to be on the swing tag as well. Another good reason for using the symbol is that it can be interchangeable with other team symbols. (which will be on my proposal board)

Now all I have to do is print these, get some black and yellow ribbon and attach it.

Tag's

Tag's both black and yellow for the t-shirts. Going to print these out and ask which ones are working/which one will set of the t-shirts right. I'm also thinking of making some round ones.

'Locke Girl Fit

Black:

Yellow:

Took some shots of the girls fit top in the tutorial room (as studio 3 was in use). The yellow fits a bit tight so I didn't want to subject anyone else to it. Forgot the comic book with 'Locke on the front that I wanted to shoot with but there's always later. When Jonny get's in I'll be taking pic's of the guy fit ones.
