IMAGE EVALUATION

During this module I have been able to concentrate on more illustrative type briefs. This was a module I really wanted to do well in because of the subject matter. There was a good core of briefs and I enjoyed working on all of them. However, I feel as if I have not worked hard enough on this module. I have not done enough back up work to support my overall final pieces. This is my own fault as I don’t prioritise and I let this module slip up the radar.

Despite this, however I have been especially pleased with my final brief as well as the book fair brief. With the book fair brief I was able to concentrate on something that I am passionately interested in. It was a struggle at first because I couldn’t think of a thing to do but that was what was good about it. I had to think about the subject matter long and hard and in doing so I came up with several good ideas and one that was made concrete.

My final project was also something I am very interested in; books and editorial design. I feel that it had been some of my strongest work but it could have been improved more. I think I was to do it again then I would have spent more time on the illustrations and coming up with a possibility of idea’s for the actually book designs.

Overall I have enjoyed the module and I hope to do more image based modules in the future.

Final Project!

Final project for the Image Module. Editorial book design of five of my favourite novels. They all have a common theme of pure "oddness." I decided to collect these together in one handy collection, also know as "An Odd Collection."





These are the finished designs and I'm quite proud of the outcome. I could have spent more time on some of the illustrations but I've never been good with time or prioritising for that matter.

I missed not having any crits with this brief. In the end, I asked HJ for advice on the type as it's not my strong point but I think it turned out ok.

Book Fair~

For the 13th annual book fair at Leeds university. I actually really enjoyed doing this, despite having to cut the characters by half. There's an equal number down of the 2 major competitive publishers (marvel and DC) as well as some small company's. (and I cheated a little bit, one of them is my own but he was drawn as a last resort and came in handy at 1 in the morning when I only had 19 instead of 20.)

I've had allot of interest in these, one of them is being shipped to the states next week. Hopefully they'll sell well at the fair.

Book Fair:

A couple of the characters I'm planning to have on a poster to sell at the book fair in the upcoming week. The theme is blue superhero's be it there skin/fur/hair or even armour. I was going to try and pantone their colours but as each depicaion of them is differnt theres not really any way to do it so I'm simply going to state who they are and what book they come from.

I have a lot more to do before next week. I was hoping to packgage them in poster tubes but I don't want to over spend if no one is going to buy these.

Eye Chart~

3rd Illustration brief: To make an eye chart out of an everyday object. I got PS3 controller. I'm an X-box person. This is the first one I've tried so far with one single vector of the controller. Just waiting to get a controller to photograph so I can do different views and not just one static image.

I like the white version better. Doesn't make you strain to see.

The; Live In Your World, See In Ours is a play on the PS slogan.

I want to do a few more variations with better colour's and to test whether you can see the bottom ones at 20 feet.

First Brief: Creating a visual to accompany an article. See this post for full problem analysis.

There are 3 articles and 4 separate images. I've started with this one:


The first thing that popped out of this article (This Column Will Change Your Life) was the following quote: "To the moon and back". It's about trying to explain how £850 billion would look visually. When you think about it, to the moon and back isn't very far.

My idea is a simple illustrative image of the moon and earth in close proximity, at the same size. I was going to add either an escalator of pound signs, or pound signs linked together going from the moon to the earth but I'm unsure at this point.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with how this has turned out. Obviously if I want to present this as the main article then I'll need to come up with something for the Facebook Icon image.

Brief: To produce 4 images to accompany 3 separate articles from the guardian newspaper.

Who Needs To Know: Readers of the Guardian and people interested in the articles.

What Do They Need To Know: That the image accompanying the article responds to the information given by the journalist.

Why Do They Need To Know: Re-enforcing the article and establishing the reasoning behind the information given. To see if the article relates to them and to show the content to the audience.

What Will They Respond To: Correlation between the article and illustration.

What Research Is Required:
