Finished Page

And here it is, my finished competition entry which I will be sending off as soon as I have made this blog post. In relation to the 12 page comic, the layout will be a little different but the initial concept will be the same.

Two mates, just enjoying a bonfire. Interruption ensues. Enjoy.

Bubbles!

When it came to make the bubbles and action words for the comic, I knew I wanted to use textures but also make it traditional at the same time. (Traditional in a sense of action words akin to old batman episodes/action comics ect)

Started off with the sketch.

Then made the outline cleaner/neater as well as changed the type in the middle to be one solid word instead of individual letters.

For the stage (And this is how it looks in on the comic) I filled the word with a dark orange, added a texture over the top and set the layer to difference. Then it was simple task of change the hue and saturation to find a colour that would fit.

I then started to look at applying this texture feel to the 2 speech bubbles/dialogue I have on the page.

First bubble didn't covey anger/annoyance in Brian's voice so I played around with the flick of the bubble.

I then went back to the bubble itself to add points and give the feel of bubbling electric anger. The kind that just comes from no where and strikes like lightning.

Adding the text which was pretty unreadable.

I then added the same process of colour and texture to the bubble that came out with the affective use of dark blue and yellow (Which is stroked with black in the comic) When I placed the bubble on the comic page, it overlapped with the other pannels so I have to flip the design upside down and it worked out quite well.

The second to last thing I needed to do for my NitN page was a tittle. I came across a type face I quite liked but I knew it wasn't quite right.

I played around with putting a autumnal tree in the fill but that didn't quite work.

Neither did just using the fill.

So I decided to scrap the tree idea and went to the fire I had been using for my comic. But that didn't quite work either. However, when I played around with one of the textures I had also being using for the comic, it started to come together.

... And I quite like the outcome.

Finished Art Work

Finished art work for my NitN page. All I need to do now is slip in the tittle and the speech bubbles. (And perhaps change the panel formation?)

Dear Grass...Next time you're a concrete yard.

Panel 1-3 for my submission are complete! Now I know what feel I wanted for the 3rd panel, it'll be easy to duplicate for the other 3 panels. Then all I have to do is the type and the tittle and I'm done!

I'll be doing one for Leeland when I've made a few amendments. He's not a happy bunny.

Line Art

Ok, so this is the line work so far for my entry to the Northern Sequential Arts. A couple of things need amending such as the forth panel. It makes more sense to have Leeland in the beginning state of falling of his chair. That way, the lead into panel five does not seem so sudden.

To do:
- Leeland in state of falling.
- a robin missing from the fence
- as well as the small fire illuminating off said fence.
- Tittle (November in the North)
- Angry speech bubble. (And accompanying text because that's my appalling hand writing at the moment.)
- Leeland little 'oww' bubble and an arrow to point at the fire with a question mark suggesting that Brian is being a little hypercritical of his neighbors and their fireworks.

Head Shot: girls

New Mutants girls so far. I think I want to go for this idea of having head shots of the team members on the t-shirts. Some with quotes and other's on their own. I'm going to see about size and colour as well.

Background

Garden background for the last four panels of the comic that don't really change. Except for in the last panel where "camera" has moved slightly to focus more on Brian and his one bit of dialogue.
